Revitalizing Creativity: Rediscovering My 2021 Coloring Book, Calming the Noise
In the midst of the global pandemic, I, like many others, sought solace in creative expression. Back in 2021, I poured my energy into creating a coloring book titled Calming the Noise, an outlet to process the stress and uncertainty of the time. This collection of intricate, hand-drawn illustrations was more than a book—it was a therapeutic journey for both me and those who found comfort within its pages.
Fast forward to yesterday, and I found myself grappling with creative stagnation. Searching for inspiration, I stumbled upon my own creation on the shelf: Calming the Noise. Flipping through its pages, I experienced a rush of nostalgia and pride. It felt like reconnecting with an old friend. Among the illustrations, one of my Cubist-inspired designs stood out, calling me to experiment with a fresh approach.
Armed with my trusty black-and-white Micron pens, I began inking over the Cubist illustration, curious about how it would look when reimagined in my signature monochromatic style. The process was immersive, almost meditative, as I revisited the mindset in which I had originally created the piece. To my delight, the finished artwork exceeded my expectations. The bold contrasts and intricate details gave the illustration new life and added dimension.
Rediscovering Creativity Through Reflection
This experience taught me a valuable lesson: inspiration can often be found in revisiting your past work. Revisiting Calming the Noise reminded me of the therapeutic power of creativity and the joy that comes from giving old projects a new perspective.
If you’re struggling to find motivation, take a moment to reconnect with your earlier projects. Sometimes, the best way to move forward is to look back at what once inspired you.
